A German Man with Heart Attack Treated at Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital

Date:2025.05.30

Recently, a German man suffered an acute myocardial infarction while on a business trip in Nanchang. Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital promptly activated its emergency response mechanism, opened a green channel, and coordinated a multidisciplinary team from the Jiangxi Provincial Cardiovascular Disease Hospital and the Emergency Department to jointly treat the patient, ultimately stabilizing his condition. This efficient rescue effort demonstrated the hospital’s comprehensive capabilities and humanitarian care in handling foreign-related critical emergencies.

It is reported that the patient experienced severe chest pain and profuse sweating while working in Nanchang. His companions immediately called 120. The emergency medical personnel preliminarily diagnosed an acute myocardial infarction and quickly transported the patient to Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital. En route, the hospital's Emergency Department had already received advance warning and activated the chest pain center's emergency plan, with the rescue team standing by.

Upon arrival, the patient showed symptoms such as decreased blood pressure and arrhythmia. An electrocardiogram confirmed an "acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction." The hospital immediately activated the foreign-related medical green channel and arranged for an interpreter to facilitate communication. The team led by Wu Zhiyong from the Jiangxi Provincial Cardiovascular Disease Hospital completed preoperative preparations within 30 minutes. After carefully discussing the condition and treatment plan, they decided to perform a single-catheter coronary angiography via minimally invasive radial artery access under local anesthesia, followed by drug-eluting coronary stent implantation. The procedure revealed: no significant stenosis in the left main coronary artery, severe stenosis in the anterior descending branch, mild stenosis in the circumflex branch, and mild stenosis in the right coronary artery. Using the Crossover technique, two drug-eluting stents (PP 3.5x28mm and 3.5x24mm) were sequentially implanted into the lesion. The occluded vessel was successfully reopened in just 40 minutes. Postoperatively, the patient was assigned a private room for strict bed rest, with close monitoring of vital signs and observation of his condition.

Throughout the procedure, Wu Zhiyong communicated with the patient in English, explaining his condition to alleviate anxiety.

After the surgery, the hospital provided personalized care tailored to the patient’s dietary habits and language needs and contacted his family and the embassy of his home country in China. The patient is now recovering well and repeatedly expressed gratitude to the medical team: "The professionalism and efficiency of the Chinese doctors saved my life!"

This multi-day rescue effort showcased the international influence of the hospital's cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment technologies and reflected its patient-centered service philosophy.
